Eye Openers

Today marks 3 weeks since M had her surgery. For the most part she's doing great. In fact you wouldn't even know that she had the surgery. There is one(ok 2) little things though....the big one she's still not sleeping through the night. I've even gone as far as cutting her nap down to 1hr, which still hasn't helped, all I get is a cranky little girl after dinner. The other problem is about 5 days ago she started coughing. It's not continues, just here and there, but when she does it sort of sounds like somethings coming up with it. It gets really bad after she drinks sometimes. This of course worries me since she just had surgery on her throat. So I called the ENT dr about getting her in today or if I could just see her regular dr. They said if there times didn't work it was not problem so off we went to the dr's office today. Good things, her ears look great, her throat looks great, tummy good, all good. The dr thinks it's reflex, which I've know since she was a few months old she had, I just watched what foods she ate. Well, she thinks it may be worse then we thought and since M's pain levels are not normal it's hard to say. I'm hoping that the meds will work and maybe she'll start sleeping.
It's terrible for a few days(and still a little now) kicked myself for putting her through the surgery. It's like, did she really need it or did we just put her through that pain for nothing! As hubby says at lest now we don't have to worry about tonsils!

Today has been all learning about M! She's been in need of some new shoes for a week or 2 now. About a month ago, I found some cute sandals for her for $5. Well, she can't wear them(at lest not all the time), they have little heals on them! It's crazy how much that little heal throws off her balance and mess's will her sensory. She loves them, but can't walk very well. So today I was off to find some shoes she could wear everyday will out worries. Here's were the learning came in she's a size 6.5 to 7!!! She was wearing a size 5 sandal! I knew they were small but not that small!! And her new sandals are only size 6(though I think she's like me in sandal's I always were a half size smaller.) I found her these cute gym shoes for $10 at Target, I got a 7 so that she could wear socks and be comfy.

Good Bye Tigger

This weekend has been a sad one in the house. To make a long story short we had to put down Tigger today.

He had a tumor(or growth of some sort) on his cheek that grew so much over the weekend that he couldn't see out his one eye or open his mouth to eat. The poor thing wasn't doing so well, and this morning we had to put him down to sleep. M doesn't have a clue about any of this, but we did try and explain it to N. Which was hard how do you tell a 3 yr old that you are putting a pet to sleep. He's been moody all weekend and today, but pretty good about all of it. He was really cute though before daddy left with Tigger we had N say bye and N said "O'tigger's eye is hurt really bad!"

Another First

We had another first today one that I thought wouldn't come for at lest another 2 yrs, but here I was starting at it, our first homework assignment!! Yes N got homework today! It's not due til Monday, so we are going to work on it tomorrow night. That way daddy can enjoy our first homework night too.

Since I know everyone is curious to see what he has to do ;) here it is!

The homework

I also had a first today....I cleaned an oven. I'm sure when I was young my mom cleaned the oven dozens of times, but truthfully I don't remember ever seeing her do it let alone talk about doing it. I know it's something you need to do, how often....no clue?! And before moving here every where else we lived it was only for a year and I never really seemed to need to do it, nor did it cross my mind. Well for the last yr I've been thinking "I wonder when I need to clean the oven". I'm sure I should, but really who is all excited and jumping on the idea to scrub down a greasy small space!? Well, it was finally time that I HAD to do it and figure out what to get to do it. You always hear the commercials for Easy Off oven clean so that's what I went with....and fume free! Down fall it was lemon fresh(I can't stand that smell it makes me sick to my stomach, but all they had) So this morning before we left for therapy and the spray park I sprayed down the oven. Can I tell you fume free my butt! Ok maybe it was just the lemon fresh smell that was getting to me, but even then IT WAS NOT lemon fresh! I'm so glad we were leaving for a few hrs. Even now when I stand by the oven I can smell it.....Anyways, it works great I didn't really have to scrub, and it took maybe 15mins to wipe down the oven, most of that time was getting all the junk off the bottom protector. I didn't take a pic of before, but here's what the water looked like after....Not so hot!

Doing good

It's been over a week since M had her surgery and she's doing really well. She wake up ALOT over the weekend and got cranking very easy. Though those were the 3-5 day mark that I was told were the worse. That's when the scabs come off. She is also down to taking her pain meds just two times a day, which I'm glad about. They are some strong stuff and I don't want them messing up her stomach or anything else. She's still not allowed to have any hard foods, like chips, or gold fish, til Monday, per drs orders. He said since she was so young he wanted her to say off that and really chewing food(fruit snacks) for 2 weeks.

She also had her first OT appointment in 2 weeks. I was really worried about it cuz she was really cranky before we left and then when we got to the room she started to get all upset again. This time OT got out her favorite toy(fisher price piggy bank) and she was better, but still a little upset and not wanted to do much. We started going over everything again, as far as what my concerns are, the drs and other therapists. I made a comment about her depth vision that we were not sure if it was sensory or a vision issue. She was like "WAIT! LET'S TRY THIS" and turned off the lights so all that was on was the emergency lights and light coming in the windows. Let me tell you M calmed down like that! She did so well today, even let the therapist help her on a toy which the last 2 sessions she got all upset when she tried that.

N is doing really well in school, I have to try and work with him on colors and shapes at home, since they tell me he's having a hard time with them. I'm not sure he seems to be do good for me(at lest with shapes) Colors, we have always had an issue with. On many occasions he has called green blue. I'm still going to work with him anything to try and help. Besides that he's doing great, talking up a storm, and has been really good about repeating himself when we don't understand. He rarely gets upset if he has to do that. We are still working on volume, he is so quite sometimes.

After Surgery

We are home! The surgery went great, she got in at about 7ish. The dr was so impressed after the surgery that he said "She may even be able to go home today." As you can already tell that didn't happen. Recovery from the surgery went ok. She needed/wanted to be held right way so they ended up calling me back so I could hold her(which I was very happy about since it was suppose to be an hr before we would be able to see her). She pretty much just slept the whole rest of the morning. She seemed to be doing ok, at around 11 she wanted to walk around til she realized that she had something connected to her(IV) she wasn't to happy about that. She's just like me though, cuz as soon as I would put her blanket over the hand that had the IV in it she would calm down. We couldn't really get her to drink anything, but she did manage to eat 2.5 Popsicles with in 30mins, and that was about it on eating and drinking. Around 1:30 daddy had to go pick up N from school, so from then on it was just M and me. N was being a little bit mooding and since M still wasn't doing so well, we decided that hubby would just stay at home and not come back to see us. N's so sensitive on how M's feeling it wouldn't have been good. The dr came in around 4 to check on her, but since she wasn't drinking or eating yet it was a no go for going home. Of course after the dr left she started eating! She also got some different pain meds which I think helped a lot, she was on Morphine first and it just made her so tired. She did great last night even slept in the crib which I was very happy for, I was so afraid she wouldn't, and I'd have to hold her all night. She did so well that the nurses even disconnected her IV sometime during the night. This morning the dr came in at about 7:30 and said she looked good and was eating so we could go home!! We had to wait for hubby and N to come get us, so we didn't get home til about 12. M's still not drinking a ton, but she's loving the Popsicles(so is N). And a funny little thing, now she's snoring! The dr says it's normal for the first few days to week, I just think it's funny since she didn't before, and every time we told a dr or nurse that she was having the surgery they would say "O'does she snore really bad at night?" Anyways, here's a few pictures from the hospital.

Here is when she first started walking around and tried to drink

Here she is trying to eat some applesauce. She wouldn't let me help her. By this time(about 8pm) she finally was getting use to the IV and using her hand with it.

Updates

I just wanted to give a little update before M had her surgery tomorrow. Not to much has been going on. N LOVES school every morning he says he wants to stay home and play, but is more than willing to get ready for school. He's also doing great in school. On Wednesday he wanted to be the greeter for circle time. Any other time they have tried to get him to do something like that he has refused, in fact he really hasn't been very involved with any of those sort of activities. M started OT two weeks ago, the first day was ok. She was doing good(as far as being willing to try stuff) til another kid's dad came in the room and then she was just to "scared" to do anymore. Thankfully it was a the end. The next day was just BAD, she was upset about having to do ANYTHING. It was so bad that she made herself sick from all the crying and fussing. We did manage to get her some what calmed down enough to do some stuff. She was suppose to go last week for just one day, but the secretary messed up the days that I told her we wouldn't be there, so she didn't get it at all. Thursday M had her Nero appointment. It went really well, she just wants to see how she is after her tonsils and adenoid surgery.

Talking about the surgery, it's scheduled for first thing in the morning. We have to be there at 6am, nice and early! This time we are still having N go to school since we will be there all day(and night for M and me). Grandpa is coming over in the morning to watch and take N to school for us. Then hubby will come pick him up and bring him back to the hospital so he can spend time w/M and me. I'm sure M will love that since she LOVES it when N gets home from school. I will not be able to post tomorrow night so everyone will have to wait til Tuesday night. Unless I can get hubby to get on and do a post, but we'll see since he doesn't like typing :)!
