First OT appointment

M had OT today it was good. The therapist, was really nice and easy to talk to. She said what I've been telling everyone...When you look at her you can't tell anything is wrong, but if you tried to move her arm(or leg) or really watch how she does things then you can tell something is a little off. That was nice to hear. Anyways, my thinking she pinches weird was right on(I just couldn't tell you why before).

Take your first finger and thumb and pinch them together that's normal your fingers are curved and make like a little oval/circle-now straighten both of those fingers and pinch, that's how M does it. It's cuz she's not really using her thumbs (if you did the above then you could feel the difference and how your thumb wasn't really doing as much). She is trying to use her fingers to do everything and using her thumb more as a guard.

I also found out she crawls funny(well, that's what I'm calling it now) I couldn't tell til she said anything...That's way she's the therapist;). M crawls on her pinkie and side of her hand. Most babies(and they are suppose to) crawl using their whole hand. This puts presser on their thumb muscle, which helps make it stronger which then helps to hold heavy things and things in general. Our homework is to massage her thumb muscles and give her toys that make her wrap her thumb around it(ie markers, rattles) and big soft toys will also help(ie squishie balls). M also needs to keep doing her Yoga Ball exercise(she stands up to a Yoga Ball and holds on to it trying to balance), this not only helps straighten the leg and arm muscles(and builds balance) but the thumb muscles too, go figure. She LOVES that exercise anyways so there shouldn't be any problems getting her to do that. The massage will be a little harder since she's not a big fan of you messing w/her arms or hands. She will have OT once a month(that's what Wendy OK'd which is fine I don't think she needs more than that right now). Today I also scheduled her spinal MRI it will be on Wednesday. I'm a little nervous since she'll have to be sedated again, but hopefully we will get some answers. So that's the news from here!
